Amid the nationwide conduct of the Career Service Examinations last August 20, the story of Frances Angela Cabanilla-Melgar emerges as a beacon of inspiration, proving that triumph in the realm of academic achievement and personal growth is attainable through determination and perseverance. As a former review student of Asiawise Study Center, Frances, armed with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology, along with a license as a guidance counselor, embarked on a journey that paved the way for her remarkable achievements within the government sector.
Frances’s journey encapsulates the transformative power of education, offering insights that resonate deeply. It began within the walls of Asiawise Study Center’s Civil Service Exam (CSE) Review, where her commitment to learning was cultivated. Looking back, Frances shared,
“I learned a lot… The tutors made sure that every student could follow through the lessons…”
On top of sharing study tips, she added,
“… the tutors also gave us encouragement that we would pass the said exam through effort and dedication, which boosted our determination in giving our 100% in taking the exam.”
This nurturing environment laid the foundation for her path towards realizing her career aspirations.
Without a doubt, the Career Service Examinations stand as a pinnacle of competitiveness, with a pass rate of merely 10-15% among test takers. However, Frances’s unwavering dedication shone through.
“The challenge that struck me the most was finishing the exam on time… practicing test-taking skills… made answering CSE test items much easier,”
Her meticulous preparation and strategic time management allowed her to conquer challenges that once seemed insurmountable.
Having successfully passed the CSE and completed her education, Frances harnessed her Civil Service eligibility to explore diverse avenues within the government sector. She explained
“The CS eligibility currently helped me to explore other career options aside from the psychology/counseling field.”
This adaptability underscored the value of the CSE eligibility in facilitating broader career possibilities.
In the landscape of academic and professional milestones, Frances acknowledged the role Asiawise Study Center played in shaping her success.
“Asiawise Study Center guided me throughout my journey… building my confidence in taking board examinations… boosting students’ courage in pursuing future academic endeavors.”
The center’s programs not only imparted subject knowledge but also nurtured vital test-taking skills.
A pivotal moment for Frances was recognizing the significance of math skills honed at Asiawise.
“One specific knowledge that I have gained… is the easy way (formula) in answering math problems.”
This skill proved invaluable in her current role as a Statistician in a government agency, underscoring how center-acquired skills continue to shape her professional trajectory.
Frances’s journey offers a reservoir of wisdom for students in demanding fields like psychology and counseling.
“Mastering the theoretical aspect is a must, but it would be pointless if knowledge gained were not put into practice.”
Her message underscores the importance of not just acquiring knowledge, but also applying it to real-world situations.
